Abstract

This paper presents a numerical study of natural convection in a square cavity filled with Al2O3/H2O nanofluid. The cavity consists of two heaters embedded at the bottom wall, other wall of which is maintained at a lower temperature. Stream-Vorticity formulation is used to eliminate the pressure term from the governing equations. A Matlab code is developed to solve the non-dimensional governing equations using finite difference method. The study also presents the influence of different parameters like volume fraction of nanofluid (φ = 0−0.2) and Rayleigh number (Ra = 103 -106) on local and mean Nusselt number. Comparison of isotherms and streamlines of pure water and nanofluid is studied. With the increase in volume fraction of the nanofluid the Nusselt number is found to increase.
