Abstract

In the present work, an asymmetrically heated channel by uniformly separated discrete surface heat sources on the bottom wall with oblique porous plugs has been studied numerically for incompressible laminar forced convective flow for different Darcy number.
The calculations are performed for estimating overall pressure drop and heat transfer coefficient in case of the forward and backward oblique porous plugs. It has been shown that by using an oblique porous plug the overall pressure drop in the channel is decreasing significantly with the magnitude of obliquity in either direction as compared to the normal porous plug. On the other hand, compared to the normal porous plugs, the heat transfer coefficient is observed to be decreasing for the forward obliquity case but it was almost the same for the backward oblique case. Overall it can be concluded that the use of backward oblique porous plugs in the channel is desirable over a normal plug since, it significantly reduces the pressure drop in the channel while keeping the heat transfer performance same as normal porous plugs.
