Abstract

The present study is carried out with a view of reducing the thermal gradient across inner vessel for a future reactor system. The geometrical configuration chosen for this study is the reactor pool of a future pool type 500 MWe fast reactor design. The complex thermal hydraulics of hot and cold pools necessitates an integrated CFD study for resolution of temperature and velocity fields. An axi-symmetric two dimensional integrated CFD model of reactor pool that appropriately models and captures all relevant phenomena is developed and used for the present study. Using this approach, three distinct configurations have been conceived and studied towards reduction of temperature difference across inner vessel.
