In the current study, the free convection heat transfer process is investigated for porous structure and its application for improving the performance of stove burners. Since it is very difficult to replicate an original porous structure due to its complex microstructure, an ideal porous structure, Kelvin structure varying pore density (PPI) and porosities are taken for simulation purposes. 3D foams of Kelvin structures with three different pore densities of 10, 20, and 30 PPI with porosities of 80%, 85%, and 90% for each case were constructed using code built-in Visualization Tool Kit (VTK) software. A hybrid mesh for the structures was generated using commercial software ICEM CFD and numerical simulations were performed using commercial CFD software ANSYS-CFX. The amount of mass flow entrainment of air was investigated in the study, and its variation with the porous geometrical properties and varying strut temperatures has been reported in the report. The heat transfer coefficients are found for all Kelvin geometry used for the simulation purpose, and their behavior with pore density and porosity are also found. A correlation between the Nusselt number and the Rayleigh number is found by curve fitting the obtained results from the simulations, which shows an RMSD value of 15.9 %.
