Abstract

Analysis of human body temperature variation under transient ambient conditions is presented in this paper. The thermoregulation model used consists of two interactive systems - An active system (the controlling system) and the passive system (the controlled system). The passive system of 15 body elements is simulated in the computing environment of Matlab using Pennes' bio-heat equation. The active system (cybernetic model) is modeled to generate neurological commands required for sweating, shivering, vasodilation, and constriction and integrated with the passive approach. The model is validated using the available experimental results in the literature and is used to analyze the effect of the physiological parameters like conductivity, blood perfusion rate, and basal metabolic rate. It is found that the higher the blood perfusion rate, the lower the drop in temperature across the layer. The performance analysis of the model under the transient ambient conditions is done and compared to the behavior of the western subjects.
