COMPUTATIONAL STUDY OF MIXED CONVECTION PAST A HEATED SQUARE CYLINDER PLACED NEAR A MOVING WALL
Flow past a heated square cylinder placed parallel to a moving wall under the influence of buoyancy is studied at Re = 100. Influence of buoyancy (Ri = 0 - 2) and blockage ratio (G/D = 0.1 - 2) on the flow field and heat transfer are investigated. For numerical simulations a finite volume based open source code OpenFOAM is used. The PIMPLE algorithm, combination of SIMPLE and PISO, is used for solving the governing equations. The Strouhal number, lift and drag coefficients, pressure coefficient and Nusselt number as a function of Ri and G/D are presented. Vortex shedding is observed at all values of Ri for an unsteady flow. A critical point exists on the rear face of the cylinder, above which the value of CP increases with Ri and below which CP decreases with an increase in Ri.
