Abstract

An experimental investigation is made on the phase separation of liquid-liquid (diesel-water) two-phase flow through a horizontal T-junction. When two-phase flow passes through T-junction, the composition of the mixture may be broken up in the junction and as a result uneven distribution of phases are obtained along inlet, run and branch arms. In the present investigation, diameter of each arm of the T-junction is considered as 15 mm, whereas length of each arm from the junction point is considered as 30 cm. Diesel-water liquid-liquid two-phase flow through the horizontal T-junction is considered. Throughout the investigation water (heavier liquid) is used as the primary phase and diesel (lighter liquid) is considered as the secondary phase. The mixture of water and diesel are collected at the inlet-section of the inlet arm and outlet-section of the branch and run arms. The experimental results are collected and analyzed in terms of the composition of mixture (Volume Fraction: VF). The effect of the inlet superficial velocity of the water and diesel on the split phenomena are extensively studied.
