Abstract

The study of tribological behavior is of vast importance in machining, as potential savings obtained by amending these tribological behaviors are evident. There are different effective ways (viz. surface texturing, film deposition, use of cutting fluids etc.) to improve the tribological properties in production industry. However, it has been felt that application of cutting fluids is relatively important for high temperature tribological applications. Further, it is observed that the significant improvement in tribological properties of cutting fluid is achieved on addition of nano particles into the base cutting fluid. It is to be noted that, Boron Nitride (BN) nano particles show better thermal conductivity, non-reactiveness, lubricious nature and hence formulation of BN nano cutting fluid is a reliable option for machining with MQL technique. This paper includes preparation of BN-nano cutting fluid, characterization of its properties and displays enhancement in machining parameters with MQL application.
