Abstract

Simulation of a single bed vapour adsorption refrigeration system has been presented in this study. Thermodynamic modelling of the system works on activated carbon- methanol has been detailed. The Dubinin-Astakhov adsorption equilibrium model is used to express the dynamics of the adsorption of the current system. The effect of desorption temperature on the refrigerating effect, COP and specific cooling power has been studied. The variation of desorbed mass with the adsorbent pressure is also presented in this paper. The result shows that the cooling cycle operates between a minimum pressure of 0.491kPa and condenser pressure of 18.76kPa. The study also reveals that the adsorbent temperature affects the coefficient of performance of the system. The system produces a cooling effect of 2.5MJ in each cycle at 360K where the maximum coefficient of performance attained by the simulation study is 0.63 and corresponding specific cooling power of the system is 11.3W.
