Drag reduction for the blunt object is one of the major aspects
for the high-speed aerodynamics. This investigation becomes
more important for the non-equilibrium hypersonic flow.
In contrast to this, an in-house chemical non-equilibrium flow
solver is successfully validated and then employed for drag reduction studies for high enthalpy laminar flows. Present studies are carried for the wave drag force and corresponding drag reduction by using spiked body concept. Here, multiple shapes of the spike tip: spherical, conical and flat is used for the gathering efficient drag reduction on the spherical body. The downward deflection of the conical bow shock wave is noticed because of the strong variation of specific heats with the temperature. This movement of the shock wave decreases the drag reduction efficiency over the blunt object. At the higher stagnation enthalpy, this reduction is independent of the selection of the spike tip. However, a spike with flat tip is the best suited candidate for the drag reduction in the reacting environment.
