Optimization of Hydrodynamic Performance of a Venturi Scrubber through Numerical Analysis
Abstract
A venturi scrubber cleans radioactive gases and aerosols
before releasing them into the environment. By dissolving
the liquid being used to scrub the incoming gas stream, the
energy of a high-velocity inlet gas stream is utilized to form
liquid droplets. The gaseous contaminants are absorbed by
the liquid stream in the venturi scrubber. The influence
of the geometry of the converging section of the venturi
scrubber on i) pressure drop and ii) throat gas velocity is
investigated in this study with various boundary conditions.
The effect of different venturi scrubber designs (traditional,
hyperbolic, and parabolic forms of converging section) has
been investigated. The venturi scrubber's hyperbolic design
was deemed to be the best of the three because it provided
greater hydrodynamic performance by having a larger
pressure drop and throat gas velocity. The findings of this
study will help to enhance the venturi scrubber in the future.
