Effect of energy storage design of PCM enclosure on PV/T module
Solar energy received by photovoltaic (PV) system is converted to electrical energy and waste heat. Further, this waste heat deteriorates the output performance by overheating the PV system. The increased PV cell temperature is usually bring down by incorporating phase change material (PCM) at the back plane to enhance the electrical productivity. In conventional method, a rectangular PCM enclosure is used as a heat extracting module. In the present numerical analysis, an improved trapezoidal design of PCM enclosure which has greater latent heat absorbing capacity in comparison to conventional rectangular design has been proposed. It has been found that changing the shape of enclosure enhance the electrical and thermal performance significantly. The results indicates the improvement of 9.04% in electrical efficiency than that of without PCM mode for improved design, while for conventional design the enhancement was only 7.84%.
