要約

Double-diffusive Convection is driven by the presence of two components of the fluid with different molecular diffusivity. Salt fingers are formed when a faster diffusing component, heat (T) stabilises and slower diffusing component, salt (S) destabilises the system. In this paper, the effect of gravity levels on salt fingers has been studied through 2D numerical simulations. The salt finger system is evaluated at different angles (θ) from horizontal and it is observed that number of fingers decrease with angle (θ). Fingers were allowed to evolve initially at low gravity g and then suddenly subjected to full gravity. Evolution of salt fingers is studied by monitoring finger structures, kinetic energy and vertical profiles. It is observed that splitting of finger takes place and fern-like structures are formed at the interface. Effect of density ratio on finger structures is also studied.
