要約

Air can be treated as a calorically perfect ideal gas for subsonic and supersonic flows. However, in hypersonic flows, temperatures behind the shocks reach a very high value and air no longer behaves as a calorically perfect gas. At these elevated temperatures higher molecular vibrations, molecule dissociation, atomic ionization and recombination reactions of oxygen and nitrogen alters the properties of air, and invalidates the use of perfect gas equation of state.
Aero-thermodynamic analysis of hypersonic trajectories involve large number of data points along the trajectory. Therefore, it is not feasible to use complex and computationally expensive Computational Fluid Dynamics simulations and use of analytical formulation becomes essential. Different analytical approaches can be used for calculating flow parameters after normal shock. The present study implements an iterative numerical method to calculate post-shock properties over a hypersonic trajectory using chemical equilibrium approach. The paper presents the methodology used for developing the code and results validating the same. Further, a typical trajectory was analysed to determine post-shock air properties and temperatures. CFD simulation was carried out at one trajectory point for comparison with the model. Results obtained from the model presented and CFD simulation carried out match closely.
