要約

In view of extensive employment of cross flow heat exchanger in various industry, this paper focuses the single phase 2D numerical study on non-circular shape using commercial software Ansys Fluent 15.0. The non-circular shapes are obtained by removing some part of a circular shape. All the shapes have surface area same as complete circular shape of diameter 25mm. The working fluid (water) strikes on the bottom part of on non-circular tube. To study the flow phenomena and streamline around the tube, temperature and velocity contour are analyzed. The outcomes of the present numerical investigation are expressed in terms of Nusselt number and pressure drop for different Reynolds number. It is observed that the value of Nusselt number and pressure drop increases with increase in Reynolds number for all the Types. All the tubes except Type VI possess similar type of heat transfer as well as pressure drop characteristics at low Reynold numbers. The values of pressure drop of all the types are comparable with the circular tube except Type VI at lower Reynolds numbers. However, there is a slight variation in pressure drop values for Type II to Type V at the higher Reynolds numbers. Among Type II to Type V, the Type IV has a higher value of heat transfer coefficient with nearly lower pressure drop. Therefore, keeping the heat transfer and pressure drop characteristics, the Type IV is the best alternative to the circular tube in the heat transfer equipment.
