要約

Numerical study has been conducted for the thermal performance of an elliptical finned tube heat exchanger with novel fin designs viz. Elliptical Plain Fin (EPF), Elliptical Integrated Pinned Fin (EIPF), and Serrated Integrated Pinned Fin (SIPF) which were modelled in Ansys. The minor to major axis ratio was kept 1:1.8 and Reynolds number at inlet was varied between 1800 and 7300 provided with 0° angle of attack i.e., major axis of the tube is parallel to the direction of primary stream flow. The mass, energy, momentum and turbulence equations have been evaluated to investigate heat transfer characteristics. Mesh sensitivity test was performed, and numerical model was validated by comparing the Nusselt number with the experimental published data. The study shows that the highest ΔTLM for SIPF that signifies higher heat transfer due to the integration of serrations and pinned fin. Also, friction factor decreases for all the fin designs because of thinning of boundary layer.
