要約

In this work, results from the numerical simulations of sonic injection into supersonic crossflow are presented. This has application in scramjet combustors. The objective of the present work is to investigate the effect of injector cross-section on mixing and spreading of the injectant, by operating the injectors at different dynamic pressure ratios. For this purpose, circular, wedge, and diamond injectors are considered. In addition to this, a novel injector geometry, namely, a circular injector with chevrons is proposed and evaluated. The geometrical effectiveness of the injectors is investigated for dynamic pressure ratios (qj/qa) of 0.3, 0.5, 1.0, and 2.0, to represent a wide range of operating conditions. The numerical simulations are carried out by solving the full Navier-Stokes equations after enabling the compressibility correction. The results show that chevron injector can enhance mixing and spreading better and faster when compared to other injectors for all the dynamic pressure ratios considered, with almost the same total pressure loss.
