要約

This paper describes the studies on the fluid flow and heat transfer characteristics of a circular jet subjected to crossflow. The investigation is carried out using the finite volume-based software ANSYS Fluent. The results are validated with those reported in literature. The Reynolds number (Re) based on the nozzle diameter is in the range 5100 to 23000, dimensionless nozzle to jet spacing (Z/D) 2 to 8 and ratio of cross flow Reynolds number to jet Reynolds number (α) 0 to 2. For a given Reynolds number, the stagnation point Nusselt number increases with Z/D to maximum value and then decreases and the optimum value of Z/D ratio is found to be 6. Stream wise distribution of Nusselt number reveals that at higher Z/D, Nusselt number is maximum in the stagnation region and it decreases in the transition and wall jet regions. At low Z/D and high Reynolds numbers there is a secondary peak in the transition region due to the high turbulent kinetic energy. At optimum Z/D, Nusselt number at the stagnation point increases by 164 % when the Reynolds number is increased from 5100 to 23000. Cross flow results in deterioration in heat transfer and also shifting of location of maximum heat transfer which may result in failure of the component to be cooled.
