要約

In this paper, numerical study has been performed on open micro pin fin heat sink with different arrangement and orientation of fins. Conventional heat sink is having uniform pin fin height throughout the channel length. The stepped pin fin heat sink is proposed having fin height varied in an array of four fins. Then, different configurations are formed using inline and staggered arrangement. Geometry selection of uniform and stepped configurations of the heat sinks is made on the basis of equal footprint area and convective surface area. Single-phase water has been used as a working fluid under operating conditions of Reynolds number =100-600 and heat flux of 400 kW/m2. Predicted results confirm that in addition to convective area, fins location and arrangement plays an important role in heat transfer performance. Stepped pin fin configuration has shown augmented thermal performance due to increased out of plane mixing. It is also concluded that staggered arrangement is not beneficial for higher Re value (Re>400) because pressure drop penalty is more elevated compared to thermal performance.
