要約

In this study, hexagonal honeycomb based heat transfer enhancements (HTE) are designed for a 50 kg La alloy based hydrogen storage reactor and the reactor performance is studied numerically using COMSOL 5.2. Transient simulations indicated an improvement in reactor performance by around 30 per cent upon the addition of the HTEs. A parametric investigation was also conducted and the influence of initial bed temperature, supply pressure, heat transfer coefficient and heat transfer fluid temperature (HTF) upon the hydrogenation processes was studied. It was observed that initial bed temperature and HTF temperature did not have a significant effect upon the rate of hydrogenation while supply pressure and heat transfer coefficient had a substantial influence upon the rate of reaction. Simulations were also carried out to study the impact of HTE orientation i.e. whether the hexagonal HTEs are more effective if placed aligned or staggered. It was observed that the orientation of the hexagonal HTE did not have any significant impact (less than 5 per cent improvement) on the reactor performance.
