要約

A vortex tube is a device which separates an incoming compressed gas into two streams, one having a temperature lower and other having a higher temperature than the incoming gas. An experimental study on the vortex tubes having a different angle of curvature is reported here with air as the working medium. The temperature difference (ΔTc) reported was higher for the aluminium vortex tubes having curvature than the straight aluminium vortex tube, hence resulting in higher cooling capacity (Qc). In the case of perspex tubes, the straight and the tube having a curvature of 900 had better performance in terms of temperature difference (ΔTc) and cooling capacity (Qc). Maximum cooling capacity (Qc) amongst all the tubes is obtained for the curved aluminium tube. However, the yield of cold mass fraction (µ) for comparable cooling capacity (Qc) is higher for the straight perspex or the curved perspex tube. The cooling capacity (Qc) depends on the material of vortex tube and angle of curvature of the vortex tube. The plot of isentropic efficiency (θ) with respect to cold mass fraction (µ) is flatter at low inlet pressure. Irrespective of inlet pressure, the maximum isentropic efficiency (θ) for all types of the tube lies in between 0.28-0.36.
