要約

This paper reports the results of an investigation carried out to study the effect of different flow blockage elements installed at the exit plane of an orifice, on the performance of an impinging jet. To accomplish this objective, three different sets of orifice plates are employed, namely, (i) orifice plate without flow blockage element, (ii) orifice plate fitted with a wire screen mesh at the orifice exit plane and (ii) orifice plate with distributed orifices are employed in this study. Experiments are conducted to cool an electrically heated flat plate of finite thickness by impinging a square jet of air at room temperature. The fluid flow, hydrodynamic and heat transfer characteristics of the jets issuing from these three types of orifices are compared under different criteria. They are: (i) Fixed mass flow rate of the fluid, (ii) Fixed pumping power consumption of the jet across the orifice plate, and (iii) Fixed Nusselt number on the target surface, for all the three configurations. The final goal is to identify the conditions under which, the heat transfer performance can be enhanced, with relatively lower pumping power requirements.
