Comprehensive analysis over dual pass trio tube heat exchanger: An experimental study

In this work, an experimental study has been conducted over the triple tube heat exchanger setup. The setup has three tubes; Aluminium tube (innermost tube 12.7 mm), copper tube (intermediate tube 25.4 mm), GI tube (outermost tube 38.1 mm). In the whole analysis N-H-N with counterflow arrangement was taken. The experiments were conducted over different set of mass flow rate:(i) mc=const, mh=mn (variation) (ii) mh=mn=const, mc (variation) (iii) mc≠mh≠mn (variation). The effect of laminar and turbulent flow in thermal energy interaction was also studied. The overall heat transfer coefficient increases with the mass flow rate of the fluid. The variations in two fluid streams (at intermediate tube and outermost tube) influence the performance more than that of the innermost tube. Pressure drop was more dominating in the fluid at innermost tube and intermediate tube compared to the outermost tube fluid. The experimental results of triple tube heat exchanger were compared with the theoretical results of double tube heat exchanger for transferring the same amount of heat transfer on same input variables, and the setup of triple tube is found 40 % smaller in length compared to the double tube heat exchanger.
