Resumo

Hypersonic rarefied gas flow past a reentry vehicle is done using Direct Simulation Monte Carlo (DSMC) method. DSMC method is a particle based simulation in which a simulated molecule, represent a much larger ensemble of molecule are tracked through space and time. The movement and collision in this physical simulation are computationally decoupled. An open sourcen solver named dsmcFoam has been used for this purpose. The solver has been validated with well-established results from the literature. Two dimensional simulations of a typical re entry model is performed for angles of attack 0°, 5°, 10°, 15° and 20° with flow properties corresponding to an altitude of 100 km and Mach number 6. The variations of temperature and pressure at different conditions are discussed in this paper.
