Cartesian Grid-based DSMC-NS Coupled Simulation Methodology for Continuum-Rarefied Gas Flows
Resumo
This work presents a DSMC-NS coupled simulation method for high-speed compressible gas flows involving a combination of both continuum and rarefied flow regimes coexisting within the same flow domain. The proposed method couples DSMC and NS solvers, operating respectively in the rarefied and the continuum regions of the same Cartesian grid, in an overlap region by employing a two-way state-based coupling and continuumrarefied interface adaptation during the coupled solution. Implementation details of coupling cycle are presented along with the validation of the proposed DSMC-NS coupled solver for the three cases (Mach number Ma1 = 3:38, 6.5 and 9) of normal shock waves in Argon. The coupled DSMC-NS solver reproduces full-DSMC computed results in 1.8 to 2 times lesser time and shows a very good
agreement with the corresponding experimental results.
