Resumo

Containment Filtered Venting System (CFVS) is one of the containment engineered safety features being designed for new nuclear power plants and retrofitting in old operating plants in India. CFVS generally comes into operation under severe accident (SA) conditions in order to protect the containment from over- pressurization by venting the containment atmosphere to environment after decontaminating the released gases (excluding noble gases). The requirement of CFVS comes several hours after the inception of severe accident, by which time a large quantity of FPs and noble gases have been released into containment from core. The containment pressure, temperature and radioactivity release to environment depends on the location of intake for CFVS within the containment. A study has been carried out for DEC-B conditions for a typical PHWR, in which effect of four different CFVS intake locations on containment pressure, temperature and source term has been evaluated.
