Resumo

Jet impingement is a proven cooling technique with high heat and mass transfer rate. Experiments are performed to analyse the impingement effect of the compressed air on heat transfer distribution over a large plate by a single circular nozzle along the radial distance. The horizontal jet is placed normal to the vertically mounted plate. The dimensionless gap of 3 to 20 is considered between the jet and plate for Reynolds around the 10000 - 45000 range. The study is done for two jet diameters of 5.88 mm and 11.5 mm on an impinging plate of 600 × 300 × 0.1 mm3. Infrared Thermal technique is used to evaluate the temperature. For given values of z/d and both jet diameters, Nusselt number surges with increase in mass flow rate. However, as the flow travels downstream the impingement point, a decline in local Nusselt number trend is seen. Around 18-20 r/d, the trend of the Nusselt number becomes constant irrespective of the jet diameter for any range of z/d and independent of Reynolds number. Collective study is done to observe the effect of nozzle jet diameter, heat fluxes and size of the plate on the cooling of the heated plate by analyzing the heat transfer distribution.
