Resumo

Overheating of power electronic devices is one of the most critical issue in present days. Temperature limits must be maintained for the proper and safe functioning of equipment. Single-phase flow in miniaturized channels for cooling of electronics, as pioneered by Tuckerman and Pease in 1981, has served the industry well. However, this configuration has limitations, which looking at contemporary demands needs to be overcome. In this context, we have experimentally investigated the convective heat transfer of two-phase air-ferrofluid Taylor bubble flow in a square mini channel. Heat transfer almost gets doubled in the presence of a permanent magnet placed at a far downstream position from the T-junction for air-ferrofluid compared to no-magnet case at low liquid flow rate. However, with the increasing liquid-phase flow rate, the heat transfer enhancement rate decreases. Thus, the present study highlights potential advantages of air-ferrofluid Taylor flows subjected to a magnetic field at low Reynolds number.
