EFFECTS OF FLAME SPEEDS ON RADIANT EFFICIENCY AND CO EMISSIONS OF POROUS MEDIUM BURNER

Resumo

This article deals with the effect of different flame speed on radiant efficiency and CO emissions of porous medium burner (PMB) with liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) as fuel. The measurement of surface temperature, radiation efficiency, and emission has been carried out. Surface temperature was measured using IR camera. Emission analysis was done using flue gas analyzer. There was a range of flow rates for each equivalence ratio, for which combustion was stable. Burners were of SiC and 80% and 90% porosity. CO Emissions were measured using flue gas analyzer for various flame speeds and equivalence ratios. Effect of porosity on emission was also studied. It was observed that porosity has negligible effect on emissions rather than flame speed and equivalence ratio. Porosity has very less impact on CO emission. Generally, CO decreases with increasing porosity. For higher porosity, temperature was also high, which increases the oxidation rate. Higher porosity burner was found to be suitable from the emission point of view. Numerical results of temperature distributions and CO emissions for various equivalence ratios and flame speeds are found to have reasonably a good agreement with the experimental data.
