Аннотация

The present work deals with the performance enhancement of a solar parabolic trough collector (SPTC) using a vortex generator (VG). In the present work, dimensions of the standard LS2 collector are considered. Three different configurations of absorber with VGs are considered apart from conventional absorber. VGs are placed in linear and circular pattern at three different locations along the length of the absorber. The numerical simulations are carried out to study the effect of inlet temperature, flow velocity and geometrical dimensions of VGs and its placement in the absorber. Based on analysis, it is found that, linear pattern VGs perform better than circular pattern VGs and a single VG placed at 1.6 m from inlet. The maximum Thermal Enhancement Factor (TEF) for the case of linearly placed VGs was found to be 1.334 for the inlet conditions of 0.75 m/s and 300 K. Irrespective of having a good percentage increase in Nu for the circularly arranged VGs, the rise in friction factor drags down the value of TEF which makes it to perform poorer than a single VG at 0.75 m/s and 1.5 m/s velocity inlets for 300 K temperature inlet. The longitudinal vortices produced thus enhanced the heat transfer in the system.
