Аннотация

Hydrogen leakage from the cylinders stored inside a warehouse may cause several safety issues. If an ignition source is available (maybe in the form of an electrical spark), the hydrogen-air mixture may combust. The severity of the hydrogen combustion depends on the local level of mixture composition. In this paper, a numerical study is performed in ANSYS Fluent to understand the distribution behavior of hydrogen leakage and identify possible explosion locations. The effect of two critical parameters, i.e., hydrogen leakage rate and leakage location inside a typical storage warehouse geometry, are scrutinized. The parameters are chosen in such a way that the worst accident situation can be captured. It is found that top portion of the warehouse is the most probable hydrogen explosion zone in all the cases, although hydrogen diffuses at a reasonable rate and forms concentration gradient layers along with the height of the warehouse. Additionally, the location close to the wall is found to be more dangerous than other location, with as high as 67% of the warehouse space in the detonation range for the leakage rate of approx. 6.94 g/s. The hydrogen explosion problem existed for the all leakage rates and the time scale analyzed in this study, and it is essential to integrate the safety measures.
