An analytical study to investigate the effect of partial loss of coolant from the vicinity of nuclear fuel plate
Аннотация
Nuclear accidents occurring due to the loss of coolant are
termed as Loss Of Coolant Accidents (LOCA) and during these accidents, the reactor core gets uncovered which implies
that the part of a fuel plate gets exposed to the steam where
there is no scope of fuel plate cooling. In this work, an
analytical study has been done based on a 2-Dimensional
model. This study investigates the temperature distribution in
a nuclear fuel plate under different submerged conditions in
the coolant. The analytical model involves steady state heat
transfer from the fuel plate to the surrounding which includes
solving of partial differential equations by employing the
method of separation of variables. The submergence height is
varied and it is observed that with the decrease in coolant
height, the temperature in the exposed portion of the fuel plate rises alarmingly. Biot number for the steam side is varied to observe the changes in the temperature in the fuel plate.
