Аннотация

The present experimental investigation compares the thermo-hydraulic performance of different passive enhancement techniques. The effectiveness of twisted tape and vortex generator winglets is studied for different flow regimes with Reynolds numbers varying in the range of 5,000 to 20,000. The twist ratio (Pt/d) of the twisted tape is 3.5, whereas the pitch (Pv) of the vortex generator is 100 mm. An infrared imaging technique is used to interpret the influence of these techniques on the test section's wall temperature profile. The augmentation in the heat transfer is accompanied by a significant increase in pressure drop; hence Thermal Enhancement Factor (TEF) is evaluated for both techniques. It is found that the drop in wall temperature is higher with vortex flow generator than twisted tape at the same flow conditions. The maximum increase in Nusselt number and friction factor is found with the vortex flow generator as 2.74, and 5.47 folds the plain tube at 4,806 Reynolds number. Whereas, for twisted tape, it is 1.93 and 4.52 times the plain tube at 5,051 Reynolds number, respectively. The maximum TEF obtained with the vortex generator is 1.55 at 4,806 Reynolds number, while for the twisted tape, it is 1.17 at 5,051 Reynolds number.
